Venango County's Diane Gramley Claims "Homosexual Activists Are Trying to Brainwash Children"

Submitted by Anon.

On a May 14, 2008 broadcast on radio station WAWN 89.5 FM (Franklin, PA), Venango County-based anti-gay extremist Diane Gramley makes the claim that "homosexual activists are trying to brainwash children."

Gramley's outrageous attack is her response to the National Day of Silence, an effort aimed at bringing attention to anti-GLBT name-calling, bullying and harassment in schools sponsored by the Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network (GLSEN).

Gramley's remarks can be heard here: http://www.afaofpa.org/AFA051408-W.mp3

It is known by officials in the Oil City Area School District that Gramley was working behind the scenes to disrupt student-led observance of the Day of Silence at Oil City Senior High School. Thoughtful action by school officials helped to avert the violent clash that could have been the result of Gramley's meddling.

Fortunately, many Americans disagree with Gramley:

I'm curious to see that these folks are now feeling "persecuted" - note this week's Fisherman's Net on the WAWN website. So, people questioning their agenda is "persecution"? People stating that they are not in line with Christian teaching is "persecution"? People saying this is not what we want in our community is "persecution"? People saying we do not want our children exposed to this type of teaching is "persecution"? If that is true, they have been persecuting the GLBT community for a long time!
If they had not REPEATEDLY attacked me, my friends, community youth, our ability to contribute...I would not, likely, be speaking out today. I am motivated to do so because of THEIR agenda. Their agenda marginalizes ME. Their message stereotypes ME. Their myths and antiquated "information" stiffles MY community. You can only push people so far, before they begin to push back. What did they think we were going to do? What do they actually expect? ...that their persecution of us would bring flocks to the sanctuary?? Truly, what do they hope to achieve? Did they actually never consider, and still do not, that what THEY have been doing was "persecution"? Yet, they now feel persecuted? How egocentric are these people?
