President: Americans elected Barack Obama, the most gay-friendly presidential candidate in this nation's history

Proposition 8: Jury's still out on California's gay marriage ban. As of 4:25 a.m. PST, it was edging closer to passing with 51.9% of people voting yes and 90.8% of precincts reporting, reports the San Jose Mercury News

Amendment 2: Florida constitutionally banned any institution approximating marriage with 62% of the vote

Proposition 102: Arizona constitutionally banned same-sex marriage

Measure 1: Arkansas constitutionally banned any single person from adopting children by a 57-43% vote

Jared Polis: Colorado voters made Polis the nation's first openly gay, non-incumbent male candidate to win a Congressional seat

Linda Ketner: South Carolina voters rejected the out lesbian's historic bid for a Congressional seat there 53-47%, according to the Charleston Post and Courier

Marilyn Musgrave: Rabidly homophobic Colorado Congresswoman and author of the Federal Marriage Amendment loses her Congressional seat

New York State Senate: Democrats pick up two seats to take control of the chamber, which opens the door for the state to potentially pass a gay marriage bill (New York's Assembly has already passed a marriage legislation and Gov. David Paterson has indicated he would sign the bill into law)
