Not Making Progress In Pennsylvania

This Alarming Comment, Posted Anonymously In Response To Today's Earlier Article About Progress Being Made In Pennsylvania On Fairness, Freedom and Equality for the State's Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Residents, Is A Stark Reminder Of Just How Much Work There Is Still To Do!

It Comes From "Anonymous" Somewhere in Northwest Pennsylvania:

"Take your demented life style and put it in the bath house where it belongs. I'm sick and tired of you perverts trying to make normal people think you're normal. This is why people have had it with you fags."

Does This Represent The Venango County That We Know And Love?

If Not, What Do We Do To Overcome It?

I can't get over the "life style" stuff. What is that? Bath house? Who knows about that? Where is the bath house in Venango County? Where do people come up with these things?
When are people going to get over stereotyping?
I know how difficult that is. I fight not to stereotype all "Christians". I fight not to stereotype all Venango County natives who have not lived some place else.
We have to make that effort on all sides.
When we stereotype, we give ourself cause NOT to get to know someone or to talk with someone. We have to talk to each other. We have to avoid the things that divide us and seek common ground. That is not easy on either side of issues. And sometimes we will say things that hurt. We need to learn to say them in a way that opens dialogue rather than shut it down. Intelligent people can do that. It's time.
