Picking and Choosing

Another in the Voices of Venango County series, by Laurence E. Botts of Seneca:

Those that profess Christianity and succumb to the opportunistic temptation of picking and choosing, out of full context, an interpretive rewrite of passages of Scripture to advance an ulterior agenda should consider tempering their self exalted discourse with ethical reciprocity!

If stoning the leper is not the way, then engaging in the like with rhetoric, political or otherwise, is also not the way.

Ethical reciprocity (the Golden Rule) is a concept that is universally accepted among all organized religions that inhabit this prodigious blue orb of, ironically, massive discontent. One would reason that if we were as truly devoted as we profess, bonding together under the paradigm would also be universal.
